Sonia Gechtoff, NA
Sonia Gechtoff, best known as an abstract expressionist, studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art where she received a BFA. She has taught at the California School of Fine Art, New York University, Queens College, and the University of New Mexico, and was a visiting artist at Skidmore College, Adelphi University and at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Numerous solo exhibitions include Kraushaar Galleries, NY; Gruenebaum Gallery, NY; Poindexter Gallery, NY, and the De Young Museum in San Francisco. Her work is found in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; the Guggenheim Museum; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Modern Art; the de Menil Collection, Houston, TX; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; and the San Jos´e Museum, CA, among other national museums. She has received awards from the Ford Foundation, the Florsheim Foundation, the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Recently she has participated in an audio interview for the archives of the J. Paul Getty Institute, Malibu, CA.
