Costa Vavagiakis


After training in fine arts at Queens College, The Art Students League and the National Academy School of Fine Arts, Mr. Vavagiakis taught at the 92nd Street YMHA and the Craft Student's League. He currently teaches at the National Academy School and The Art Students League. Mr. Vavagiakis was a recipient of a 2000-2001 Pollock-Krasner Foundation award, and in 2001 a Gregory Millard Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Mr. Vavagiakis has exhibited at the Hackett-Freedman Gallery, San Francisco, CA; the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, WA; the Queens Museum of Art, NY; the Islip Art Museum, East Islip, NY; the Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY; the VandeGriff/Marr Gallery, Santa Fe, NM; the Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AK; Tatistcheff & Co, Inc., NY; the Bronx Museum of Art, NY, and the Copper Hewitt National Design Museum, NY. His work is in the collections of the Museum of the City of New York; The New-York Historical Society, Brigham Young University, Provo, UT; the Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AK; the Southwest Texas University, and Chesbrough- Ponds Corporation, among others. Mr. Vavagiakis is currently represented by Hackett-Freedman Gallery, San Francisco, CA.

Mr. Vavagiakis was a finalist in the 2006 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, and his work appeared at the National Portrait Gallery July 1, 2006-February 19, 2007.
