Born in 1942, Maynard, MN, painter William Beckman earned a BA from St. Cloud State University and both an MA and MFA from the University of Iowa. He lives and works in Wassaic, NY, and is represented by the Forum Gallery, New York. Recent one-person exhibitions include the Forum Gallery; Frye Art Museum; Huntington Museum of Art; K & E Gallery, NY; Indiana University Art Museum and numerous shows at the Allan Frumkin Gallery and the Allan Stone Gallery. Group exhibitions include the Susquehanna Art Museum; Schick Art Gallery, Skidmore College; Center for Visual Arts, Summit, NJ; and numerous shows at the Forum Gallery. His work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; Carnegie Museum of Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; Museum of Moderne Kunst, Vienna, Austria; Smith College Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; and the Yale University Art Gallery. He is the recipient of several American Academy of Arts and Letters Awards; and the Thomas R. Proctor Prize, National Academy.
