Born in 1943, graphic artist William Behnken earned his BA, MA, and PhD from City College of New York, CUNY, where he currently teaches printmaking and art history. He is also an instructor at the Art Students League and the National Academy School of Fine Arts. The artist lives and works in New York City and is represented by the Old Print Shop, New York City. Recent exhibitions have included the Old Print Shop; Julie Heller Gallery, MA; Riverdale Garden Gallery, NY; New World Gallery, Dusseldorf, Germany; James Bakker Gallery, Boston, MA; St. Peter's Church, Citicorp, NY; Denise Bibro Gallery; Society of American Graphic Artists; and the New York Society of Etchers. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; British Museum, London; Fitzwilliam Museum, England; New York Public Library Print Collection; Boudoin College Museum; Indianapolis Museum of Art; and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. He is the recipient of a McNeese University Purchase Award; Albany Print Club Purchase Award; Carl Schrag Award, SAGA; Louis Lozowick Award and a Gold Medal in Graphics, Audubon Artists; Ralph Fabri Award, National Academy; and the Art Career Achievement Award for 2004, City College Alumni Association.
