Born in Latvia, 1913, painter Hyman Bloom emigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was 7 years old. He grew up in Boston's West End and took drawing classes from Harold K. Zimmerman, along with fellow student Jack Levine. He lives and works in Nashua, NH. He has had exhibitions across the country including the Museum of Modern Art; and most recently he was honored with a major retrospective at the National Academy. Important group exhibitions include "Americans," Tate Gallery, London; "Four Boston Masters;" "The Jewish Experience in American Art," Jewish Museum; and "Expressionism in Boston." His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; Jewish Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Phillips Academy; Rose Museum of Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; and the Art Institute of Chicago. He is a recipient of a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship; and a painting award, National Academy.
