Born in Providence, RI, 1922, graphic artist Sidney Chafetz earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and studied with Fernand Leger at the L'Ecole Ameqicaine des Beaux Arts, and was an apprentice to S.W. Hayter. He lives and works in Columbus, OH, and is represented by the Susan Teller Gallery, NY. Recent exhibitions include the Society of American Graphic Artists, NY; Otterbein College, OH; Fratianni Gallery, Bloomington, IN; New Orleans Museum of Art; Rhode Island Jewish Community Center; South Korea Print Exhibition; and a retrospective at the Columbus Museum of Art, OH. He is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art; Library of Congress; National Woodblock Institute, Tokyo, Japan; The British Museum, London; Cincinnati Museum of Art; J.P. Morgan Library; and the Cleveland Museum of Art. He is a recipient of a Library of Congress Purchase Award; two Fulbright Fellowships; Tiffany Foundation Grant; American Print Council Award for Outstanding Printmaker; L'Ecole des Beaux Arts Award; and a residency at the MacDowell Colony.
