Born in New London, CT, 1949, painter Susanna Coffey earned a BFA from the University of Connecticut, and an MFA from Yale University. She lives and works in New York City and Chicago, IL, where she is the F.H. Sellers Professor in Painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is represented by the Tibor de Nagy Gallery, NY. Recent exhibitions include the Tibor de Nagy Gallery; Weatherspoon Art Gallery, University of North Carolina; Marguerite Oestreicher Fine Art, New Orleans; several at the Alpha Gallery, Boston; Maya Polsky Gallery, Chicago; Dartmouth College; Ackland Art Museum; Atrium Gallery, University of Connecticut; Lyons Weir Gallery, Chicago; The Painting Center; Sharpe Foundation's 10th Anniversary Exhibition, Ace Gallery, NY; and the Williams College Museum of Art. Her work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Brauer Museum, IN; Catherine T. & John D. MacArthur Foundation, Chicago; Minneapolis Museum of Art; Rockford Museum, IL; Cincinnati Museum of Art; and Williams College Museum of Art. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship; Hassam, Speicher, Betts and Symons Funds Purchase Awards, American Academy of Arts & Letters; Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant; NEA Grant; Guggenheim Fellowship; and an Illinois Arts Council Grant.
