Born in New York, NY, 1931, painter Francis Cunningham earned a BA from Harvard University with additional studies at the Art Students League with Edwin Dickinson and Robert Beverly Hale. He has taught at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Art Students League, and the National Academy School of Fine Arts. He lives and works in New York City and is represented by the Laurel Tracey Gallery, Red Bank, NJ. Recent exhibitions include the Hirschl & Adler Galleries, NY; and shows in Washington, DC, Chicago, Denmark, and Sweden. He is the co-founder with Barney Hodes of "The New Brooklyn School of Life Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, Inc., 1980, and the co-founder of "The New York Academy of Art," 1983. He is a Fellow of the Bogliasco Foundation and a recipient of a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant; and received an Artist Fellowship Benjamin West Clinedinst Medal.
