Born in Brooklyn, NY, 1922, sculptor Leonda Finke studied drawing at the Art Students League and sculpture at the Educational Alliance. She has taught at Nassau Community College, SUNY, for many years. She lives and works in Roslyn, NY. Recent exhibitions include the Oxford Gallery, Rochester, NY; Loughborough University, UK; Hudson River Gallery, Dobbs Ferry, NY; Grounds for Sculpture, NJ; The Century Association; Sculpture Center Gallery; Goethe National Museum, Weimar, Germany; Elaine Benson Gallery, Bridgehampton, NY; Challenging Tradition: Women of the Academy, National Academy; 200 Years of Figure Art, Long Island Museum, Stonybrook; and Megaro Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan.Her work is included in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery; Butler Institute of American Art; British Museum, London; Grounds for Sculpture; Kingsborough Community College; and Brookgreen Gardens, SC. She is the recipient of a Yaddo Fellowship; J. Sanford Saltus Award, National Academy; Gold Medal, National Sculpture Society; and a residency at Brookgreen Gardens as Kenan Master Sculptor.
