Born in Cleveland, OH, 1925, painter Joseph Fiore studied at Black Mountain College, with Josef Albers, Ilya Bolotowsky, Willem de Kooning and Jacob Lawrence, and the San Francisco Art Institute. He lives and works in Jefferson, ME, and New York City and is represented by the Anita Shapolsky Gallery, NY. He has had recent exhibitions at the River Gallery; Round Top Center for the Arts, ME; Davidson College, NC; Rider University Art Gallery; Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockport; Black Mountain College, Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain; Whitney Museum of AmericAN Art; and the Worcester Art Museum. He is included in the collections of the State Museum of North Carolina; Corcoran Gallery of Art; Housatonic Art Museum, CT; Chase Manhattan Bank Collection; Farnsworth Art Museum; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is the recipient of a Purchase Award, American Academy of Arts & Letters; Edwin Palmer Memorial Prize, Obrig Prize, and the Andrew Carnegie Prize, National Academy.
