Born in London, England, 1933, painter and sculptor Mary Frank emigrated to New York at age seven. She studied dance with Martha Graham and painting briefly with Max Beckmann and Hans Hofmann before turning to sculpture in which she is self-taught. She has taught at the National Academy School of Fine Arts; New York Academy of Art; and the Santa Fe Institute of Art. She lives and works in New York City and is represented by the DC Moore Gallery, NY. Recent exhibitions include numerous shows at the DC Moore Gallery; Marsh Art Gallery, VA; Provincetown Art Association; Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase; Bruce Museum of Arts & Science, CT; Neiman Gallery, Columbia University; and a retrospective at the De Cordova Museum, MA. She is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; Brooklyn Museum Of Art; Jewish Museum; Hirshhorn Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She is the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships; Joan Mitchell Grant; Pollock-Krasner Award; American Academy of Arts & Letters Award; and Hayden Herrera published a book on her in 1990.
