Born in 1919, graphic artist Antonio Frasconi grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay and studied at the Circulo de Bellas Artes, Montevideo, Uruguay, and at the Art Students League, NY. He lives and works in South Norwalk, CT., and is Distinguished Professor of Visual Arts, School of Art & Design at Purchase College, NY. Recent exhibitions have included the El Museo del Barrio, NY; Gallery, State University of New York, Purchase, NY; XII International Biennial de San Juan, PR; Sala de Exposiciones de la Oea, Argentina; Norwegian International Print Trienale, Norway; Wight Art Gallery, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA; and the New Britain Museum of Art. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art; Cleveland Museum of Art; Metropolitan Museum of Art; El Museo del Barrio; Smithsonian Institution; Library of Congress; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. He is the recipient of a Printmaker Emeritus Award, Southern Graphic Council; Lifetime Achievement Award, The Government of Uruguay; Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant; Guggenheim Fellowship; and the Society of American Graphic Artists Award. He woodcuts can be seen in illustrated books including Frasconi: Against the Grain; Kaleidoscope in Woodcuts; and Pablo Neruda's Bestiary/Bestiario and in A Whitman Portrait.
