Born in Spring Green, WI, 1936, painter, muralist, and graphic artist Richard Haas earned a BS at the University of Wisconsin and an MFA at the University of Minnesota, and spent several summers at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin Studio in Spring Green, WI. He lives and works in New York City. Recent exhibitions include the Whitney Museum of American Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; American Institute of Architects Foundation; Chrysler Museum; St. Louis Art Museum; and the Aspen Art Museum. Mural commissions including the Fontainebleau project, Miami Beach; 1211 LaSalle Street Building, Chicago; Federal Court House, Kansas City, KS; State Historical Society, Portland, OR; and New York City where he has completed a number of trompe l'oeil murals including the Greene Street Building wall in Soho; the White Street Detention Center; and the New York Public Library at 42nd Street. He is the recipient of the Municipal Arts Society of New York Award; American Institute of Architecture Award; National Endowment for the Arts Grant; and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
