WALTER HATKE, NA
NA 1999
Born in Topeka, KS, 1948, painter Walter Hatke earned a BA from DePauw University and an MA and an MFA from the University of Iowa. He has taught at American University, Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, Kansas City Art Institute, MO, Smith College, Yale University and is currently Professor of Fine Arts at Union College. He lives and works in Schenectady, NY, and is represented by the Gerald Peters Gallery, NYC and Santa Fe, NM. Recent exhibitions include several at the Mandeville Gallery, Union College, NY; Gerald Peters Gallery, NY and Santa Fe, NM; MB Modern; Mulvane Art Museum; Babcock Galleries, NY; Art of the 20th Century, Park Avenue Armory, NY; John Spence Gallery, San Francisco; Art Miami, International Exposition; Iowa Museum of Art; and the Amon Carter Museum. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Art Institute of Chicago; Rhode Island School of Design Museum; Smith College Museum of Art; International Bahai Center, Israel; DePauw University; and Union College. He is the recipient of an Artist Fellowship, NEA; Ingram Merrill Foundation Grant; Vermont Studio Center Fellowship; Hassam Purchase Award, American Acadmy of Arts & Letters.
