Born in Los Angeles, CA, 1931, painter and watercolorist Donald Holden earned a BA from Columbia University and an MA from Ohio State University, and did additional studies at the Art Students League and the Parsons School of Design. He lives and works in Irvington, NY, and is represented by the Pucker Gallery, Boston; Greenhut Gallery, Portland, ME; Stremmel Gallery, Reno, NV; and the White Gallery, Lakeville, CT. Recent exhibitions include Susan Conway Gallery; a retrospective at the Butler Institute of American Art; Contemporary Art Center of Virginia; Portland Museum of Art; Springfield Art Museum; Stremmel Gallery, Reno; Hudson River Gallery; Bryant Galleries, MS; Oxford Gallery, NY; and the Portfolio Art Gallery, SC. He is included in the collections of the Albright Knox Art Gallery; Ashmolean Museum, Oxford University; Victoria and Albert Museum, England; Smithsonian American Art Museum; Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco; Butler Institute of American Art; British Museum, London; Corcoran Gallery of Art; Phillips Collection; Cambridge University; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Philadelphia Museum of Art; and Yale University Art Gallery. He is the recipient of an Obrig Award, National Academy; Florscheim Art Fund Grant; and holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Maine College of Art.
