Born in Worcester, MA, 1932, graphic artist Sidney Hurwitz studied at the School of the Worcester Art Museum, Stuttgart Art Academy, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and earned an AB at Brandeis University and an MFA from Boston University. He has taught at Wellesley College, Boston University, Brandeis University, and Amherst College. He lives and works in Newton, MA, and is represented by the Pepper Gallery, Boston. Recent exhibitions include the Boston Public Library; Franz Bader Gallery, DC; Gordon College Museum, MA; Pepper Gallery, Boston; and at Amherst College Museum; Mary Ryan Gallery, NY; University of Utah; William and Mary College; British Print Biennale; Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition; and the Krakow Print Biennial, Poland. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Worcester Art Museum; Museum of Modern Art; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Krakow National Museum; Federal Reserve Bank, Boston; and the Library of Congress. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship; Austrian Government Grant; Massachusetts Council of the Arts; Academy of Arts & Letters Award; Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant; the Leo Meissner Prize, National Academy; and a medal from the Audubon Artists.
