Born in Atlanta, GA, 1925, painter and sculptor Luise Kaish earned a BFA and MFA from Syracuse University with additional studies at the Taller Grafico & Escuela de Pintura y Escultura, Mexico, and the Instituto d'Arte, Firenze, Italy. She is Professor Emeritus at Columbia University and was artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College, the University of Haifa, and the University of Washington, Seattle.She lives and works in New York City and is represented by Kaish Studios. Recent exhibitions include The Century Association, NY; a retrospective at the Jewish Museum, NY; Minnesota Museum of Art; The Fine Arts Center, Fulbright College, University of Arkansas; and the Staempfli Gallery, NY. Her sculpture has been commissioned by the Temple B'rith Kodesh; Continental Grain Co., NY; and the Holy Trinity Mission Seminary.Her work is included in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, DC; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Export Khleb, Moscow; Hebrew Union College, Jerusalem; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship; Rome Prize Fellowship, American Academy in Rome; Arents Pioneer Medal; and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant.
