Born in Portland, OR, 1925, sculptor Barbara Lekberg earned a BFA and an MA from the University of Iowa and teaches at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia. She lives and works in New York City and is represented by the Harmon Meeks Gallery, Naples, FL, and the Judith Leighton Gallery, ME. Recent exhibitions include the Sculpture Center, NY; Harmon Meeks Gallery; Percival galleries, IA; The Century Association, NY; Marmara Manhattan Gallery; Grounds for Sculpture, NJ; Meguro Museum, Tokyo, Japan; Mount Holyoke College; Glass Art Gallery, Toronto; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; Museum of Modern Art; Philadelphia College of Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her work is included in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art; New School University; Philharmonic Center for the Arts; Knoxville Art Center; Des Moines Art Center; George Washington University; General Electric Corp.; and the Birmingham Museum of Art. She is the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships; Institute of Arts & Letters Grant; Gold Medal, National Academy; Florscheim Art Fund Grant; and has an Honorary Doctorate from Simpson College.
