Born in Kansas City, MO, 1925, painter Wilbur Niewald earned a BFA and an MFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. He lives and works in Kansas City, MO, and has taught at the Kansas City Art Institute and the New York Studio School. Recent exhibitions include a retrospective at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art; Marianna Kistler Beach Museum, Rider University; Morgan Gallery, Kansas City, MO; Wright State University, OH; New York Studio School; Dorry Gates Gallery, MO; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; Zeuxis Gallery, NY; A Fine Line, National Cademy Museum; Serial Thinking, traveling exhibition, Zeuxis, NY; and the Ingber Gallery, NY. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art; and the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. He is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award, Charlotte St. Fund, Kansas City, MO; Educators in Fine Art Award, Hallmark Card Inc., Kansas City, MO; and a Distinguished Teaching of Art Award, College Art Association of America.
