Born in Pittsburgh, PA, 1924, painter Philip Pearlstein earned a BA at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and an MA in art history at New York University, Institute of Fine Art. He lives and works in New York City and is represented by the Betty Cunningham Gallery, NY. He has taught at Pratt Institute, Yale University, and Brooklyn College. Recent exhibitions include numerous shows at the Robert Miller Gallery; Betty Cunningham Gallery, NY; Haas & Fuchs Gallery, Berlin, Germany; numerous shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art; a retrospective at the Milwaukee Art Museum; and many exhibitions throughout the country and abroad. His work is included in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; Appleton Museum of Art, FL; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Hunter Museum of American Art; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; Museum of Modern Art; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Turman Gallery, Indiana State University; and the National Academy of Design. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship; National Endowment for the Arts Grant; Gold Medal, National Academy; and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
