Born in New York, NY, 1921, graphic artist John Ross earned a BFA from Cooper Union and also studied at Parsons School of Design, Ecole des Beaux-Arts, France, New School, Columbia University, and Instituto Statale d'Arte, Florence, Italy. He lives and works in New York City and is represented by the Susan teller Gallery, NY. He has taught printmaking at Manhattanville College, New School, Yale University, and Columbia University. Recent exhibitions include Susan teller Gallery, NY; Manhattanville College Library; Rutgers University Library; Rider College Gallery; C.G. Reim gallery, Scottsdale, AZ; University of Colorado; New Jersey State Museum; Princeton University Library; Museum of Modern Art; Dallas Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art, Cairo, Egypt; and the Santa Cruz Museum. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; Library of Congress; New York Public Library; Victoria and Albert Museum, England; Houghton Library, Harvard University; and in U.S. Embassies in Paris, London, Lima, Saigon, Algiers, San Salvador, Bucharest, Belgrade, and Madrid. He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant; Society of American Graphic Artists Award; Florscheim Grant; Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant; NEA Grant; Citation from Cooper Union; Print Club of Philadelphia Award; Boston Printmakers Award; and several awards from the National Academy. He is co-author with his wife, Clare Romano, of The Complete Printmaker (1972).
