PHILIP LAWRENCE SHERROD, NA

Born in 1935, painter Philip Lawrence Sherrod earned a BS and BA from Oklahoma State University and studied at the Art Students League. He lives and works in New York City and teaches at the National Academy School of Fine Arts, New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, and the Art Students League. Recent exhibitions include the Allan Stone Gallery; Cone Gallery; Sonraed Gallery; Cork Gallery, NY; Swain Galleries, NJ; Limner Gallery, NY; The Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors Exhibition; Art Students League exhibitions; Artemis East Gallery; Gallery 100, Princeton, NJ; and Pace University. He is the founder of "Street Painters," who work on location in New York and hold exhibitions. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of the City of New York; Phillips Academy; Rose Art Museum; Herbert Johnson Museum; Everhart Museum; Newark Museum of Art; Hirshhorn Museum; Worcester Art Museum; Rhode Island School of Art Museum; Brandeis University; Cornell University; and the Springfield Museum of Art, MA. He is the recipient of American Academy of Arts & Letters Award; Adolph Gottlieb Foundation Grant; Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant; and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant.
