Born in Boston, MA, 1924, painter May Stevens earned a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, studied at the Art Students League, Academie Julian, Paris, and earned an MFA equivalency, New York City Board of Education.She has taught at the School of Visual Arts. She lives and works in Santa Fe, NM, and is represented by the Mary Ryan Gallery, NY. Recent exhibitions include the Mary Ryan Gallery, NY; Minnesota Institute of Art; National Museum of Women in the Arts; Headlands Center for the Arts, CA; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; LewAllen Contemporary, Santa Fe; Exit Art Gallery, NY; Herter Gallery, University of Massachusetts; Bunting Institute, Radcliffe College; Greenville County Art Museum; University Art Gallery, California State College, Long Beach; and the Springfield Art Museum. Her work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art; Brooklyn Museum of Art; Joslyn Museum; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; National Museum of Women in the Arts; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.
