The exhibition galleries and lobby of the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts are closed for renovations from July 2010 to September 2011. Please visit our website in the coming months for updates.

Tours and gallery activities for students grades K-12 provide rewarding museum experiences for any age level and are designed to deepen student knowledge about the role of art in American culture.

Experienced tour guides structure student conversations to build observation skills and promote visual literacy, critical thinking and self confidence.

Tours are thematic and works of art are approached from technical, art historical and cultural perspectives. Activities link to school curricula through the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.

PLANNING YOUR VISIT

• 60 minute tours are $90 for groups of up to 25 students.
• 90 minute tours with a gallery activity are $150 for groups up to 25 students.

Please note that the museum does not have dining facilities. School groups must leave lunches on the bus. To assure that your visit is the best experience possible, we require one chaperone per ten students for grades K-6, and one chaperone per fifteen students for grades 7-12. Adult chaperones are free.

Tours and gallery activities can be scheduled Tuesday- Friday throughout the day, beginning at 10am.  Reservations must be made at least three weeks in advance.

Museum-School Partnerships
Collaborations between the museum and schools feature multiple points of contact and allow students to explore exhibition themes in greater depth. Each partnership is designed individually to enhance learning and support school objectives. Partnerships can include museum visits, in school visits by a teaching artist or museum educator, art making workshops, professional development for teachers and special programs for families.
