SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are made possible by bequests, endowments, and annual gifts from Academy members, Friends of the Academy, Foundations, and alumni. Over $100,000 in scholarships and prizes are available. Scholarship competitions are usually held three times during the school year, generally in November, March, and June. Scholarships are granted to students on the basis of financial need and are available to new students as well as those already enrolled in classes at the school. Proof of financial need is required. Scholarship funds are applicable solely towards tuition and studio fees at the National Academy School of Fine Arts. Individuals interested in applying for scholarships should contact the school office at (212) 996-1908. Submission dates, times and places are listed below. No exceptions will be made. FALL 2007-SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION SUBMISSION DATES & TIMES: Friday, November 16, 11:00am-4:00pm & Saturday, November 17, 10:00am-4:30pm The National Academy School of Fine Arts invites applications for scholarships for use during the school's fall 2007 and spring 2008 classes and workshops. Scholarships may be applied towards class tuition and studio fees, and will be awarded on the basis of financial need only. Completed scholarship applications and works of art can be submitted Friday, November 16th, up until 4:00pm and no later than 4:30pm on Saturday, November 17th. No exceptions will be made. Sculpture applicants should have work arranged for viewing in the sculpture studio Monday, November 19th at 12:00 noon. All work should be brought to the Huntington Room Each applicant must submit the following: 1) A completed application form. 2) At least three (3) and no more than five (5) original works in one or two mediums (i.e. drawings and paintings). Each work should be clearly labeled with name, date, and medium. Slides may be submitted in place of original work, but original work is preferred. Slides should be in a clear plastic slide sheet. Each slide should be clearly labeled with name, date, media, and dimensions. Indicate top of slide with an arrow. Slides must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope to be returned via mail. While all work will be handled with great respect and care, the school cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage. 3) Two letters of recommendation from instructors or professional artists. Recommendation letters in a sealed envelope must be submitted either with the application, or submitted independently by the instructor to the office. 4) Two statements of financial need a) 2006 tax return, and b) most recent bank statement Foreign students who have I-20 forms through the school must provide a letter to the school regarding why they need additional funding. 5) Personal statement, not to exceed one page, describing professional artistic goals. ALL WORK MUST BE PICKED UP IN THE STONE ROOM BY 5:00PM TUESDAY, November 20, 2007. The school cannot store artwork and will not be held responsible for unclaimed work. While the greatest of care will be taken with all submissions, the National Academy School cannot be held responsible for any damage to or loss of submitted works. In addition to the above scholarships, the Newington-Cropsey Foundation Award provides two painting students the opportunity to travel and study in Italy for six weeks during the summer. The award includes paid living expenses in Florence, art history field trips, as well as studying at the British Institute in Florence. Students will be given several weeks of orientation at the Academy of Art in Hastings, New York. For all information about this scholarship award see the School Director.
